Best Travel Gear
For Hiking & Camping.

It’s one thing to have great style when you’re at home and have access to your closet, but finding the right type (and brands) of clothes for when you are on the go for sometimes long periods of time can be a challenge. I struggled for a really long time to figure out what the best clothes for traveling were.

Obviously everyone travels differently, but after years and years of living out of a backpack, I’ve learned a few things. The most important being, that to me, packing (and traveling) light is priceless.

That means it’s worth investing a little more money in well made clothing that have multiple uses. Clothing that has special features like odor protection, sun protection, or are both stylish and functional- meaning I can wear it on an adventure in the jungle or a night out on the town to keep the amount of stuff in my bag to a minimal are worth their weight in gold.

Each item listed below has gone on multiple adventures with me and I am happy with the experience (or else it wouldn’t be on this list).

Everyday Shirts

Bluffwork Crew Neck Bluffwork shirts are perfect for traveling. Each shirt has UPF 50+ protection, is moisture wicking, quick drying, machine washable, and has anti-odor technology.
UNTUCKit Button Downs I love my wrinkle-free performance shirt. I know it will stay relatively wrinkle free and give me a 'nice shirt' option if I need it.

Coats & Jackets

Cotopaxi Fuego Hooded Down Jacket This is my 'it's between 15-55° F" jacket and it always gets the job done.
Flexion II Jacket This is my go-to when I don't need a coat and a jacket will do. It features perfected temperature regulation and superior comfort in a technical fabric that breathes while you move
Kathmandu- Rain Jacket It packs away into its own pocket for your convenience while traveling. It also features a drawcord around the hood for extra protection in poor weather. Oh, and it's made of recycled waterbottles.
Bluffworks Gramercy Travel Blazer This fashionable jacket is wrinkle-free and can be rolled up and packed away easily. But it also looks and fits great. It's perfect for flying, or when you need to dress-up a bit on the road.
Teca Half-Zip Windbreaker - Unisex It's light, compact, and useful. It's made from panels of repurposed polyester taffeta, and features an interior chest pocket that doubles as a storage pouch.

Shorts & Pants

Ion Pant These are the most comfortable pants I've ever owned. They aren't 'sweat pants' but aren't 'dress pants' either. I have worn them for everything from lounging at home, on a plane, or on the golf course.
Bonobos Stretch Washed Chino Shorts Looks good and easy to clean. These are the perfect shorts for traveling which is why I have 3 pairs.
Cotopaxi Veza Adventure Short When you're on the go it's important to have a pair of shorts that are comfortable but also good for activities. These have proven time and time again to be great shorts.
MerinoTencel Sweatpants If you want a pair of extra comfortable pants to lounge/travel in these are them. Every Merino wool fiber has Lanolin, which helps wick moisture away from your body, and act as a safeguard against odor-causing bacteria

Hats & Shades

Melin- A-Game Hydro Love this hat. It's made to be worn while you're doing something active. It's constructed with durable materials the hats are water repellant, floatable, and breathable. I have 3 of them.
HYLETE Nation Flexfit Cap Simply put, the Flexfit cap just feels well made. I love how slick and simple the black one is and it's become one of my go-to hats.
SHRED. Belushki When I'm traveling I'm usually doing something 'active' and the Belushki are the perfect sunglasses for that lifestyle. Light weight, stay in place, and look great. Inspired by River Guide Ben.

Sun Protection

Coastal Waters Long Sleeve This shirt saved my life (and skin) on the 12 day rafting trip in the Grand Canyon and has been my favorite sun shirt ever since. It keeps the sun off you, is quick to dry, and looks cool.
Columbia PFG Terminal Tackle™ It's light weight and keeps you cool when the sun is off you. I like to rotate this shirt and the costal waters one and both do a great job.
Outdoor Research Sombriolet Sun Hat I call this my "Adventure Hat" and it has more than lived up to its name. To date, I've never had a bad experience in it and it keeps my face and neck protected from the sun.
