BEST THINGS TO DO
in Cabo San Lucas Mexico

Cabo San Lucas is a picturesque resort city that is located in the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. Cabo San Lucas is recognized by both the Forbes Magazine and National Geographic as one of the best destinations for tourists thanks to its grand hotels and unique attractions.

Cabo has something amazing to offer for every traveler so whether you are looking for a trendy venue to host a special event, an escape from your daily grind, or simply a place to enjoy yourself and relax, this city is the ideal place to be.

Cabo San Lucas welcomes more than three million tourists every year and its tourism industry has been continuously growing. Los Cabo Airport is being expanded to open a third terminal to keep up with the increasing number of tourists. If you are lucky enough to visit this wonderful city then here are somethings that you must include in your itinerary.

Best things to do in Cabo San Lucas Mexico

Visit Flora Farms

Flora Farms is a 25-acre organic farm that is located near San Jose del Cabo. It is known for growing various kinds of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Flora Farms has been around for years and it has been continuously expanding to include more varieties of produce. It also hosts a farm-to-table restaurant and a dedicated field kitchen. You should definitely visit Flora Farms if you would like to taste deliciously cooked food made from freshly picked ingredients.

Go scuba diving

Cabo’s unique location between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez is a real treat for divers as it offers a lot of marine life diversity, from invertebrates to whales, to appear. Throughout the year there are migrations of multiple shark species, humpback whales, bait balls, and one of the largest aggregations of rays on the planet – mobula rays. The two most common dive spots are the “Cabo San Lucas Marine Park” and “The Corridor”.

The Cabo San Lucas marine park has something to offer everyone. Especially relevant to all diver levels, the dive sites accommodate beginner divers with shallow dives in addition to deep walls and a shipwreck for more advanced divers (this is where we went diving and it was incredible). In the region between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo called the “Corridor” are 6 beautiful dive sites. These dive sites are 20-40 minutes away by boat. It is common to dive with eagle rays at “Whale’s Head” and with schools of jacks and tunas at “Chileno Bay”. You can also dive above the color covered reef top at” Gavilanes” and at the underwater pinnacles at the “Blow Hole”.

 Whale Watching

One of the best things to do in Cabo is to go on a whale watching tour. During some months of the year especially from January to March, whales pass through Cabo San Lucas. Thousands of enthusiastic whale spectators gather during the whale watching season to scratch this memorable feat off their bucket list.

During your tour, you might even encounter a curious whale and if you are truly an adventurous soul and crave the closest encounter possible then you should opt for a smaller boat as it will increase the chances of getting close to a whale.

 Hike the Pedregal

The prominent mountain that you will see just behind Cabo San Lucas is known as the Pedregal which means “rocky ground.” If you love the outdoors then one of the best things to do in Cabo for you is to go for a hike along the steep roads of Pedregal. It will not only allow you to indulge in a fun physical activity but you will also be able to witness a wonderful and scenic view of Cabo.

Once you reach the top, you will be able to see the marina below that lies on the Sea of Cortez and you will also witness the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. You can reach Pedregal by walking west along Lazaro Cardenas and crossing Miguel Hidalgo. You will then come across a security gate which will lead to the entrance of Pedregal. The road for your hike starts soon after that and you should aim to make it to the top so that you can enjoy the astonishing views from the white round observatory.

Go Zip-lining

If you are someone who likes that adrenaline rush then going zip-lining is one of the best things you can do in Cabo San Lucas. It will not only allow you to push your limits and experience something new but it will also enable you to see another side of Cabo away from the beach. You will be able to admire the sheer beauty of its desert canyons and mountains.

Tequila Tasting at Ponchos

If I’m not drinking whiskey- than it’s tequila and tequila tasting at Ponchos in Cabo is my favorite tequila related activity. There were 6 of us who decided to do a private tequila tasting and it not only was it super fun (when is taking 6 shots in an hour not), but it was also super interesting. Poncho’s does a great job of teaching you how to ‘sip’ tequila by smelling it, drinking it, and exhaling to properly experience the taste. Past that they explain the difference between different types of tequila and even do some crazy pairings (like Mezcal and chocolate ice cream- and it was delicious). If you’re in Cabo- do yourself (and your group) a favor and do a tequila tasting.

watch the sunset at the office

If you spend your day hiking, zip-lining, or scuba diving I can’t think of a better way to cap it off than by grabbing dinner (and a few drinks) at the best Mexican Restaurant in Cabo- The Office on the Beach watching the sunset over the water. Whether you are by yourself, with your special someone, or in a group of friends I promise it’s the exact vibe you are looking for.  As it’s a super popular place, I do recommend calling ahead and setting up a reservation to ensure yourself a prime spot.

Visit Playa Del Amor and Playa Del Divorcio

Playa Del Amor means “the beach of love” and Playa Del Divorcio means “the beach of divorce”, and rightly so as these beaches are located opposite to each other. Playa Del Amor lies on the side of the Sea of Cortez and the Playa Del Divorcio lies on the side of the Pacific Ocean. The water in the Sea of Cortez is relatively calmer like the start of a new romantic relationship and hence the resemblance with the name. Similarly, the water in the Pacific Ocean is a bit raging like a recent breakup.

You can reach this shoreline by walking towards the south of the downtown area. But you should know that these are one of the busiest spots in Cabo so you should go there earlier in order to make the most of your time. This unique geographical location will give you an amazing experience and hence you should definitely add it to your travel itinerary.

You should visit both of these beaches but if you are running short on time then you should prioritize Playa Del Amor because you will get to see magnificent marine life in the clear waters and depending on your luck, you might even be able to catch the glimpse of a few sea lions.

Visit the Bird Sanctuary

The San Jose Estuary and Bird Sanctuary hosts hundreds of bird species including white herons, frigatebirds, egrets, and brown pelicans. You can enjoy the lush greenery and watch the birds while riding a kayak. The best times to visit the sanctuary are just before sunrise or sunset as the views are simply breathtaking. The sanctuary also has a dedicated information center where you can find answers to all the questions you might have.

Enjoy a sunset cruise

If you are a couple and want to indulge in some romance then you should set sail on a sunset cruise. It is simply one of the most romantic things to do in Cabo. You will get to sail around Land’s End while enjoying the view of a beautiful sunset, the sky will turn neon pink and then transition to burnt orange. As the darkness of the night seeps in, you will slowly glide back as the waves collide with each other creating a smooth melody. And if you are looking for something even more special then you can even book a private sailboat just for the two of you. This way you will be more flexible to roam around and enjoy each other’s company.

Day trip to Visit Todos Santos

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city Todos Santos is a short 45 minute drive away. It’s a charming town full of shops, art, and great food. You’ll go and wish you could stay forever. If you like Cabo you’ll love Todos Santos.
