How Travel Teaches You Who You Are
Pioneering your purpose

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
J.R.R. Tolkien The Lord of the Rings

Is it time to go on an adventure? Yes.

Few things will help to teach you who you are and what you value like traveling. Whether it’s across the world or to the next town over, getting away and having some time to yourself will transform you in ways few other things can.

But going on the trip is only half the adventure. Before you get to feel the excitement of boarding the plane, getting lost in a new city only to find yourself, you need to sort out the logistics. Sadly, this is the spot where so may would be travelers get stuck.

Hard truth- planning a trip can be overwhelming AF.

How do you pick where to go? How long do you stay? Which flight you should take? Where do you stay? Is it safe?

As someone who’s taken and adventure or two, I know how life changing it can be and it’s something I want to help as many people as possible experience.

Which is why when Taylor asked me to be a part of Pioneering Your Purpose Expert Series, I knew that my gift, or purpose if you will, had to be doing what I do best- planning an adventure for someone who is ready to truly find themselves and their own purpose.

Over the years, I’ve learned that one of my passions is using my knowledge, mini OCD, and past experiences to help and inspire people all over the world to travel. It’s literally why I started Of Whiskey and Words in the first place.

There isn’t any magic or secrets to planning an awesome trip.

But it is a lot of work, so let me help!

So, how does this work?

I’m going to pick one entry and help them plan a 7-11 day trip for up to two people for either 2022 or 2023!

I’ve outlined the different steps to think about below, but I will meet with the winner and learn more about a place they’ve always wanted to go.

I’ll then help them figure out HOW to make it happen and send over suggestions on which cities to visit, where to stay, things to do, and can’t miss meals.

They will then be responsible to getting everything booked & paid for – with help from me as needed!

Step 1: Figuring out how long?

For the winner to take advantage of this, in your current situation, I recommend that you are able to take a 7-11 day trip.

The length of the trip will dictate where you can go.  For example, if you live in the US, but only have a week, I wouldn’t recommending going to Asia, Australia, or New Zealand because you’ll spend almost more time traveling than enjoying your vacation. Knowing how long the trip helps me figure out realistic options.

Step 2: Budget? Where to?

After establishing the length of the trip, it’s a lot easier to pick the place. The next step in the process is to use a general budget ($, $$, or $$$) to help figure out which bucket list destination is realistic.

While it’s true, you can make most places work regardless of the budget if you’re on a tight budget, a place like Hawaii isn’t the best fit.

Step 3: Travel Style

Everyone travels different. Some people love to focus on food and others on culture.  Some prefer hostels and others refuse anything that isn’t a 5* hotel.

I’ve done both and will help you identify your travel style and make sure the trip is planned to fit it.

Step 4: Transportation and Accommodation

Once we know your travel style, it’s really easy for me to find the right flight, train, or bus to get you from point A to B.

When I help you plan this trip, I’ll send over t multiple transportation and accommodation options for you to pick from.  While I’m always happy to offer my recommendation, I will to find 3 options for you to pick from.

Step 5: Activities, Food, & Drink

This is why people travel. To eat, drink, and do cool stuff.

To challenge themselves and expand their world view.

I’m a big fan of “where not what‘.  I like to assemble a list of places to eat, drink, and things to do for each place and then do my best to go with the flow once I’m there.

I’m not the type of person who plans every second of the day out, but I will make a list of restaurants/bars/tour agencies that I would recommend checking out while there so you can have a good starting point and reference.
