The Benefits of Trying

Picky eaters aren’t just children. The thing is, as an adult, you have the ability to decide whether or not you are brave enough to try new things or if you’re going to stick with what you know. Most adults say yes to trying something new because they are very aware that if they don’t try it, they will never learn if they’ll like it or not.

You may never have been to a Mediterranean restaurant in Scottsdale before, but that doesn’t mean you don’t know how to enjoy delicious chicken that is spiced the right way. The key here is in jumping in with both feet as much as possible. You should enjoy trying new restaurants and new types of food and even if you want to order yourself something that’s safe that you know that you like, trying a mouthful or two of something brand new on someone else’s plate, such as your partner, is a great idea.

There are so many benefits of trying new foods, and it’s not just for children to learn not to be picky. So here are the few reasons why trying new food is a great thing.

You gain new experiences. One of the best reasons to try new foods is that you get to go above and beyond all of those typical go-to’s. Safe foods are safe, but broadening your horizons is a challenge that can help you to broaden your knowledge as well as your palate. New experiences are good for everybody, and food is an experience in itself.

You never know, you may actually enjoy it. The best reason to try new food is that you might actually like what you try. It may look different, or smell different, or have a different texture, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to hate it. The likes and dislikes change overtime, so your whole life you could have hated peanut butter. But then try it once when you’re an adult and decide that actually, that’s quite nice.

You’ll be exposed to new cultures. If you live somewhere in the world, that is primarily American, you may really miss out on being exposed to Indian dishes or Malaysian dishes. Finding an authentic Mexican restaurant in your area gives you a chance to test out some new foods. Going to a Chinese restaurant gives you a chance to be exposed to new customs and new ideas such as eating with chopsticks. Mediterranean restaurants might have spices you’ve never tried before in a combination you would never have considered and be the best thing you’ve ever tasted.

It’s a shared experience. If there’s anything that you could say about food, it’s that people share in the experience of enjoying it. Whether it’s sitting in a restaurant that you’ve never been to before or going to a feed yourself buffet restaurant, there are so many different ways you can experience food and the cultures that come with it.
